A laser pointer is a visible beam that is projected from the infrared camera onto the target. The laser dot on the target corresponds to the middle of the thermal image. This is useful when capturing an object when many similar objects are in close proximity (eg. circuit breakers in an electrical panel), when poor light conditions exist or when working with targets over large distances.
