MAID Labs’ MerMaid 3 X Three-Phase Electric Analyzer
MerMaid (Motors & Events Recorder) is a three phases X three motors (or other equipment) current, voltage, frequency, digital and analog recorder system. It simultaneously examines all phases at the same time of several electrical equipment and monitors.

It fits where no other recorder will.

Most control panels do not have the internal space or available power required to leave an electrical datalogger inside for a long period of time. Sometimes, to catch an intermittent problem or to monitor specific equipment, there is no choice but to leave an expensive power metering instrument outside an open panel for a long period of time. MerMaid is 5 times smaller than the average power analyzer and will operate for 4 months non stop (under normal conditions) on 2 inexpensive user replaceable internal batteries. With rechargeable batteries, AC power and integrated DIN rail attachment, it’s ideal for permanent installation. An optional internal modem is also available.

Find problems 3 times faster

In some cases, the problem is caused by a sequence of operation of multiple pieces of equipment. It is difficult to find these problems if only one piece of equipment is monitored. Problems are also caused by operator’s behavior, limit switches or when a pressure, temperature or other actions take place. The basic MerMaid (with the appropriate sensors) can monitor the current and frequency for 3 phases on 3 motors, pumps or other electrical equipments simultaneously, plus has 4 digital inputs, 1 analog input and 1 power failure input (when operating on batteries). Power consumption is calculated by entering a voltage in the software or by using an optional external three-phase 600V potential transformer connected to one of the motor input. All of the motor inputs can be converted to 4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-12V or 0-24V with an optional adapter. All inputs are viewed on an optional Palm computer. Windows and Palm software are included.

Simple to use

Designed by electricians for electricians, MerMaid uses intelligent recording based on events or variations to record data, therefore no setting is required eliminating the most common errors. The user simply needs to use the right sensors for its application. MerMaid is so simple to use, most will never read more than the one page quick guide.

What the users have found?

Based on a significant survey including hundreds of MerMaid’s monitored equipment owned by 65 large multinational companies or cities, 32 % of all equipment monitored had multiple abnormal operations every day and another 18% had this problem few times every week. Most of these anomalies were unknown because they were not permanently disturbing the production … yet. Is this the best time to correct these problems?

The Bottom Line:

Full Review

  • Fast and easy to use
  • No settings required, simply select the right sensor for the job.
  • MerMaid electrical datalogger:
    • 9 current / frequency sensors inputs or 6 current + 3 voltage inputs
    • 3 digital inputs, 1 pulse input (low frequency), 1 analog input (4-20, 0-5V set by software), internal temperature and battery status.
    • Power consumption (KVA and KVAH) with optional external three-phase 600V potential transformer
    • 4 months non stop operation on 2 type C alkaline batteries.
    • Up to 15 starts and stops recorded per motor per second
    • Up to 60 changes of state per digital inputs
    • All analog values are checked, then compare to values in memory before being recorded every two seconds or less.
    • Roll over memory after 500,000 records. (No one was able to fill the memory in less than a week in a survey including more than 200 electrical equipments and most would have required more than 3 weeks to do so!)
    • Real time data viewed on an optional Palm using infrared communication or serial communication
  • Windows and Palm software
  • Kits available

Technical Data

Inputs

Motors: 3 three-phase motors, pumps or other electrical equipment can be monitored simultaneously. Each three-phase motor input can monitor frequency, current, voltage or be used as an analog input.

Sequence: 1 to 9 electric sensors (current, voltage or analog) can be connected simultaneously, which greatly helps in finding problems related to sequence of operation.

Current: 9 current sensors can be connected simultaneously (if not used for anything else). Current sensors not included.

Voltage: 1 to 3 three-phase plus ground 670V voltage transformer can be connected simultaneously (if not used for anything else). (Optional)

Motor operation: Up to 15 starts and stops can be recorded per second per motor.

Frequency: Phase 1 on each motor monitors frequency from 25Hz to 250Hz through current sensors or voltage transformers.

Digital: 3 dry contacts can record 100 changes of state per second on one input or down to 10 changes of state per second if all inputs are used

Pulse: 1 dry contact, one pulse per 2 seconds

Analog: 1 internal single-ended differential 4 to 20 mA or 0-5V, software selectable.

Analog inputs module: adds three 4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-10V or 0-24V inputs connected on any motor inputs (if not used for anything else). (Optional)

Power Failure: Detected through power supply or power antenna (when operating on internal batteries)

Sampling

Recording algorithm: Intelligent automatic recording based on differences between readings and data in memory.

Motor starts and stops: Up to 10 change of state per second per motor. 2% of the sensor scale is required to record a start assuming 1.5V output at full range or 0.03V

Frequency: every 2 seconds or slower, depending on algorithm

Type of inputs: For each three-phase motor input, one of the following input type can be selected: Current, voltage or analog (4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-10V or 0-24V). It records when a variation higher than 0.8% occurs.

Current: every 2 seconds or slower, depending on algorithm
